What does a regular Live Practice look like?
Each Live Practice lasts for 30 minutes, and follows the same structure:
Review and Warm-Up (5 min)
Review: Go over the homework tasks and any questions from the last Live Practice.
Warm-up: Go through a few quick questions to warm up.
Ask them how their week was
Check if they have any questions about their homework from the last session
Check how much of the self-study material they managed to cover
Remind them of the lesson objectives for the session (this will be detailed in the Live Practice: Activities section)
Let them what you’re going to cover for the rest of the lesson: you’ll spend 20 minutes focusing on different activities, with 5 minutes in the end to review everything you’ve learned during the session
Engage (20 min)
Go through at least two different activities to help stretch the learner’s learning.
Assess + Challenge (5 min)
Assess: Do a quick recap of everything you’ve covered in the session.
Challenge: Set the learner a homework task to do before the next Live Practice.
Before the Live Practice
It's really important that you prepare for your Live Practices using Chatterbox resources, rather than your own. That helps make sure that your Live Practice matches up to everything your learners have been studying beforehand and helps keep things consistent.
Before your Live Practice, make sure you’ve read through all the relevant resources, and keep them open in another tab for the Live Practice itself.
To access the resources:
Open the calendar from your dashboard
Click on the upcoming booking and make a note of the lesson number and title
Head to the coaching area and search for the lesson number and title to find the right resources.
During the Live Practice
✓ At the start of the class, ask your learner if they were able to study all the material on Cerego beforehand. If they didn’t manage to, nicely remind them that it’s really important for them to prepare for each class.
✓ Next, go through a few quick questions:
Ask them how their week was
Check if they have any questions about their homework from the last session
Check how much of the self-study material they managed to cover
Remind them of the lesson objectives for the session (this will be detailed in the Live Practice: Activities section)
Let them what you’re going to cover for the rest of the lesson: you’ll spend 20 minutes focusing on different activities, with 5 minutes at the end to review everything you’ve learned during the session
✓ Stay friendly at all times, and check-in with your learner regularly to make sure they understand the lesson.
✓ Make sure you adapt the pace and the number of activities to suit the learner’s level. During a 30-minute lesson, you’ll probably cover between 1-3 activities.
✓ Make sure you’re leaving your learners as much time as possible to practice their speaking skills.
At the end of the Live Practice
✓ Recap your session! Ask the learner what they learned, and how they can use this in their work next week. That will help them get thinking about how to use their skills outside the classroom, and give you something to check in on next week!
✓ Set them their homework for the week.
