Preparation before your first Live Practice
It's essential that you only use materials provided by Chatterbox (available from the Coaching Area) during the Live Practice and not your own materials. This is to ensure that the language being used/reviewed during the Live Practice relates directly to what learners have studied before attending the Live Practice and that there is a consistent learner experience (if a learner changes Coaches throughout their course of study).
Before your Live Practice, ensure you have read through the relevant Coach resources and have this open when you enter your Live Practice.
To access the correct material:
1. Open the Calendar from your Dashboard:
2. Click on the upcoming booking, and make a note of the lesson number and title:
3. Next, go to the Coaching Area and search for the matching lesson number and title - if they match exactly this will be the material you use for your Live Practice!
During Your Live Practice: Structuring the session
✓ At the start of the class, ask your learner if they were able to study all material on Cerego. If they didn’t, kindly remind them that it is very important to make the most out of their learning.
✓ At the beginning of each Live Practice, it is essential you spend 5 minutes completing a warm-up by following this structure:
- Ask your learner how their week has been
- Ask them if they have any questions about any homework you set from the last session
- Ask them how much of the self-study material they covered - this will give you an indication of how prepared they are and what types of activity you choose to do in the Live Practice
- Tell them the lesson objectives for the session (this will be detailed in the Live Practice: Activities (coaching material)).
- Tell them you'll spend the next 20 minutes focusing on different activities and will wrap up the session by spending 5 minutes reviewing what you've done during the Live Practice at the end
✓ Always be friendly and make sure you ask your learner if they understand you.
✓ Adapt the pace and number of activities for each learner according to their level. 1-3 activities for a 30-minute session is normal.
✓ Make sure your learners get as much talking time as possible.
End of your class
✓ Recap your session: Ask the learner what they learned, how they can use the new learning in their workplace the following week. This will encourage them to be proactive outside the classroom, and report their progress to you the following week!
✓ Give them their homework.
Final note
We do not expect you to know everything about the language your Coach in or each Chatterbox course. If you're unsure of something, direct your learner to the "Language helper" who can help them in more detail.
