Tests and exams

Mid-course tests

Every 5 lessons learners have to do a mid-course test, to put their reading, listening and writing skills into practice.

  • Format: The test covers three core language skills: reading, listening and writing. Each test takes no more than an hour, and it comes in two parts. First, learners take a  20-question quiz to test their reading and listening skills. Next, they need to do a writing exercise. This then gets reviewed by the Language Helper, who will come back with feedback within five days.

  • Passing grade: learners need to score at least 75% in the first part of the mid-course test in order to pass. If they don’t manage to pass we’ll let them know which areas they need to work on, and they’ll be able to retake the test as many times as they like. They can only take the writing exercise once, but if they’d like some extra practice the Language Helper can always lend a hand.

  • Preparation: learners don’t need to do any special preparation for the mid-course test, as they’ll have covered all the topics in the past five lessons. All they need to do is make sure they complete all their self-study assignments and go to their Live Practices,

  • Motivation: Tests, like deadlines, can be a great source of motivation. (No, really!) Our tests have been developed by qualified linguists and language teachers, to help them take their language skills even further.

Practice Exam

Once learners finish all 20 of their course’s lessons, we offer them a practice exam. This helps put their reading, listening and writing skills to the test, to prepare them for the Final Exam. This is their last chance to review everything they’ve learned so far during the course. The Practice Exam is fairly similar to the mid-courses tests, and they’ll be able to repeat it as many times as they like.

Final Exam

The Final Exam is the last step learners need to do to finish their Chatterbox course. During the final exam, they’ll get tested on four core language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. They’ll only be able to take the Final Exam once, and they’ll need to get at leach 75% in each skill in order to pass.
